Built in 1919, this building is supported by a stone base with multiple layers of 1 1/2”-thick terracotta panels, which create a mortar rain screen system. It was originally built as a warehouse and has been modified over the years, being recladded in 2015. It is currently being used as a public middle school.
M+S was hired to perform a 9th Cycle FISP Inspection at the building. The previous initial cycle 8C inspection report was filed as ‘SAFE’. Since then, new deficiencies were observed during the inspection conducted on 6/3/2022. The building is a seven-story public/facility institution (school) building located on 75 Morton Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of the borough of Manhattan. Built in the year 1920, this building is approximately 102 years old. The original building was built in 1920 and went through a change in façade. The building originally had a façade of brick and decorative stone masonry which was changed to a terracotta rain screen system. The height of this building is approximately 70 feet. The building has a lot area of approximately 100.58” x 172.5’ / 21,875 square feet. The construction consists of brick masonry, terracotta rain screen panels, and granite at the base. The building is ‘L-shaped’ with the main entrance on Morton St. There are several bulkheads present at the roof level as well as multiple areas of green roof. The west façade of the building is along Greenwich St, the South façade is along Morton St, the North facades is along Barrow St, and the East façade is against the neighboring buildings. The main entrance to the building is on Morton Street.
