Ever wondered if your architect is a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI)? Here are five key indicators to help you ensure your project is in expert hands! 🔍

1️⃣   Credentials Matter: QEWI certification is a prestigious designation, indicating a high level of expertise in exterior wall inspections. Check if your architect displays this credential:

2️⃣    Knowledge Base: A QEWI is well-versed in building codes and standards related to exterior walls. Inquire about your architect’s familiarity with local regulations to gauge their depth of knowledge.

3️⃣    Experience Speaks: An architect with QEWI certification likely has substantial experience in assessing and addressing issues with exterior wall systems. Look for a track record of successful projects.

4️⃣    Attention to Detail: QEWIs pay meticulous attention to the details of exterior wall conditions. Additionally, per DOB regulations your QEWI is required to go in person to check all inspections – make sure you are seeing “selfies” in your FISP reports to ensure the QEWI has been on site in person! Be sure to ask your architect about their inspection process and how they ensure comprehensive assessments.

5️⃣    Continuous Learning: Being a QEWI requires staying updated on industry developments. Inquire about your architect’s commitment to ongoing education and professional development.

This complex of buildings is used as a commercial self-storage and Charter School. The original buildings were built in 1923 and 1932 and were altered in 1997 and 2002. It was reported that the buildings used to be both a diaper factory and an ice cream factory – though, not at the same time! The buildings are constructed of concrete, brick, and CMU blocks. M+S designed two packages for repairs consisting of typical concrete and masonry repairs to be completed first, and then the building will be clad in metal panels within the prime storage branding design.
M+S is working with a contractor to get the project started and is excited to see the finished product!
